The QR is a shortcut, not the menu
A QR menu uses a QR code to open a menu on a customer’s phone. The code itself normally contains or redirects to a web address. What determines the quality of the experience is the page that opens after the scan.
What happens when a customer scans
The phone camera recognises the code, shows a link, and opens the digital menu in the browser. A well-designed menu requires no app installation and should take the guest directly to useful content rather than an account screen or advertisement.
Dynamic content is the real advantage
With a web-based digital menu, the restaurant can change a dish, price, description, photo or availability without changing the physical QR. That separates the long-lived table sign from information that may change every day.
Digital menu versus PDF menu
A PDF can be convenient for sharing a print layout, but many PDFs were designed for A4 or large menu pages. On a phone that can mean tiny text and repeated zooming. A responsive digital menu can reflow content to the screen and provide tap-friendly navigation.

What a good QR menu should include
At minimum, show the business identity, menu categories, item names, current prices and enough description to understand each dish. Depending on the restaurant, useful additions include dietary labels, images, availability and language options.

Where QR menus work well
They are useful for restaurants, cafés, bars, food stalls, pop-ups and other businesses whose offerings change. They are especially practical when a business wants the same QR to survive seasonal menu changes or price updates.

It should still feel like hospitality
Technology should remove friction. Keep the journey short, make the menu easy to read and ensure staff can still answer questions. The best digital menu quietly supports the dining experience instead of becoming the experience itself.
